I am seeing a few articles out there speculating on why Chrome might not take off. I think it will and in under a year or much less, it should become one of the major players in the field. Some reasons just of the top of my head...
1. Its not just for Geeks. The performance improvement will be noticeable by the average Internet user. Just open something heavy like Gmail or Yahoomail.
2. It just does what its meant to do - open pages real fast and in a stable manner. Most users wouldn't mind the lack of extensions etc. I mean you hardly notice the browser once you start using Chrome! Its just awesome.
3. It SHOULD be more secure though it is difficult to prove this. I like the different processes idea a lot. Besides the code is open source, so people will figure out how to fix issues pretty quick once the community starts growing.
4. Chrome is on the Google home page, you CANNOT get a better ad spot than that!
5. Its Google! People have this intrinsic trust in everything they do, just look how fast Gmail has caught on. Besides, I think it has brought in some really new ideas - especially the Tab behavior, the most radical thing done after tabs themselves were introduced, many of the other ideas like the different processes, the v8 engine etc are under the hood.
